What to Expect in Therapy at Serenity
We know taking the first step toward counseling can feel big—maybe even a little scary. At Serenity Counseling Center in Marietta, GA, our goal is to make the process feel safe, supportive, and straightforward. Whether you’re dealing with anxiety, relationship challenges, stress, or just want to feel more like yourself again, we’re here to walk alongside you. Here’s a gentle overview of what the therapy journey typically looks like with us—plus answers to some common questions to help you feel more prepared and at ease.

How do I know if counseling is right for me?
Counseling can be incredibly helpful if you’re struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, stress, or simply feel stuck in life. It offers a confidential, non-judgmental space to gain new insights, develop healthy coping skills, and move forward with more clarity and strength. If you’re wondering whether this is for you, the best way to find out is often to reach out for a gentle conversation—no pressure.
What should I expect in the first session?
Your initial appointment is an intake session focused on getting to know each other. We’ll talk about your history, what’s bringing you in right now, and your hopes for therapy. It’s also a great opportunity for you to ask questions about our approach and see if it feels like a good fit. Most people leave feeling heard and hopeful.
How long does counseling usually take?
Every person’s journey is unique. Some clients find meaningful progress in just a few sessions, while others benefit from ongoing support over several months (or longer). We’ll work together to set realistic goals and check in regularly on your progress, adjusting as needed.
Do you accept insurance or only private pay?
We are in-network with select insurance providers. For other plans, we can provide a superbill so you may seek out-of-network reimbursement. Private pay options are also available, and we’re happy to discuss what works best for your situation.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule?
We kindly request at least 24 hours’ notice for cancellations or rescheduling. This allows us to offer the time to someone else who may need it. Late cancellations or no-shows may incur a fee, thank you for understanding
What if my partner or family member wants to join?
We specialize in marriage, couples, and family counseling, so integrating loved ones is often a positive step. If you’re already in individual therapy, we can discuss the best way to blend sessions thoughtfully and support everyone’s needs.
What if I’m in crisis?
Our practice is not a crisis center. If you are in immediate danger or crisis, call 911 right away.
Ready to take that first step? We’re here when you’re ready—no rush, no judgment.
